2010 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart

2010 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart
A great week is to have a 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer for a test drive. It was absolutely terrific, but this was no ordinary Lancer. This was a Sportback Ralliart model, complete with enough racing features to provide an exhilarating drive. There were a few downsides, however.

Mitsubishi has their Lancer EVO, which is fairly popular and performs well. This new Sportback model of the Lancer provides more versatility by combining a sporty car with the convenience of a five door wagon-like vehicle. There is even a rear cargo floor that can be dropped about three inches to provide additional cargo space if needed.

The Sportback is provided in two trim models - the GTS and the Ralliart. My test model was the Ralliart, which offers a lot more power, and All-Wheel-Drive. The GTS has Mitsubishi's 2.4 liter engine that is quite efficient and provides 168 horsepower. The Ralliart has a 2.0 liter, inline four cylinder, turbocharged engine that spits out 237 horsepower. There is only one transmission in the Ralliart and that is a six speed automatic Twin Clutch Sportronic Shift. That is the same automatic transmission in the Lancer Evolution.

The automatic feature is operated normally, but can be handled manually by the magnesium paddle shifters behind the steering wheel. I tried the paddle shifters quite often during my test drive and they work extremely well. I am just not inclined to use paddle shifters very often in any car and generally leave that driving mode to those who like to dream about being racecar drivers.

The exterior of the Lancer Ralliart is striking. It offers a swept back appearance that sometimes appears as a standard Mitsubishi look and other times as something new. My test model was called Wicked White. The interior was black. The interior is generally comfortable, except for the seating. There are a few silver accents and the fit and finish is well done. Most of the interior, however, is plastic, and mostly plain black. There are a lot of features that help make the driving experience pleasant.

Optional Recaro seats were added to my test drive model. These have extra side bolstering that help hold you in the seat on sharp corners or fast turns. I like the Recaro seats. The spec sheet said that the driver's seat was adjustable, but that only meant it moved back and forward. There was absolutely no way to raise the height of the seat. Although I may aspire to be a six-foot person, I have not arrived at that lofty height yet, so I must rely on the seat to raise me to where I can see over the dashboard. It was definitely a challenge. The steering wheel does not telescope, so I had to pull the seat as far forward as possible just to reach the pedals and steering. Once that was all done and the seat back positioned, it was a fairly decent ride. I wish there had been a center armrest to help out on a lengthy highway stretch.

If you are looking for a vehicle that will provide a very sporty ride with all the convenience of a hatchback, then the Lancer Sportback Ralliart might be just right for you. I really liked the advanced All-Wheel-Drive, especially during the inclement weather.

Starting price of the GTS is just $19,190,but the Ralliart version begins at $27,590. My test model had a bottom sticker price of $31,060, but it had a lot of added convenience features including a terrific Rockford Fosgate sound system. EPA mileage figures are 17-mpg city and 25-mpg highway.

If a sports car feel with the convenience of a small hatchback appeals to you, check out the 2010 Lancer Ralliart, complete with all the driving excitement and turbocharged sporty fun at a Mitsubishi dealership yourself.

2010 Hyundai Elantra Touring

2010 Hyundai Elantra Touring
The 2010 Hyundai Elantra Touring is a full featured car, offering plenty of space. Unfortunately, that space came at a premium price: weight. Tipping the scales at nearly 3100 pounds might cause some automakers to consider introducing a beefy 4 cylinder or even a lightweight 6 cylinder engine to the mix. Unfortunately, these options in turn increase overall weight, which is why Hyundai tapped their tried and true 2.0L DOHC inline-4 cylinder for the job.

Some call it the little engine that could, but Hyundai officially refers to it as the Beta II. Hyundai's Beta II engine can deliver 132 hp in PZEV tune or 138 in its general arrangement, both at 6000 rpm. Horsepower comes on strong at approximately 3200 rpm and pulls strong almost all the way to the red line. Torque figures produced by Beta II-powered Hyundai Elantra Touring editions are even more impressive, with the full 136 foot pounds available to the front wheels at 4600 rpm, but nearly 80 percent of that torque available well before the 3000 rpm line is crossed on the tachometer.

It might be easy to conclude that the engine is all about brawns, but the opposite is actually true. Instead of being all about raw power, the engine is actually an incredibly refined engine, featuring smooth variable valve timing, and computer-adjust manifolds. Additionally, the 2.0L engine that sits under the hood of the new Elantra Touring is also very frugal with its use of fuel and produces very low emissions. Hyundai did not see fit to make any updates to the engine found in the 2010 Hyundai Elantra Touring, but that as mostly because they hit the nail on the head the first time and did not need to make significant refinements. After all, the old express tells the wise not to fix what is not broken.

History of Alfa Romeo Cars

History of Alfa Romeo Cars
Any car enthusiast worth their salt will know the Alfa Romeo brand, but do you know how they got to be one of the world's most important car manufacturers? Founded one hundred years ago in Milan, the Alfa Romeo brand has recently celebrated its centenary on June 24th 2010. It all began in 1906 when the French car firm Alexandre Darracq decided to join forces with Italian investors and create the Societa Anonima Italiana Darraca (SAID), the roots of the famous brand. Initially the company planned to manufacture their vehicles in Naples, but the site was changed to Milan and a factory was established there instead. A new company began as an offshoot of the business and the manufacturers created the Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili, which would become known as A.L.F.A. The 24 HP was the first break out into the market, designed by Giuseppe Merosi.

With World War I drawing resources elsewhere, the ALFA factory submitted to a cessation in production for three years, recommencing in 1919. Italian entrepreneur and engineer Nicola Romeo became the new director in 1915 and oversaw the war effort, producing munitions in place of motor vehicles. When car production started up once more, Romeo changed the company title to Alfa Romeo and released the first model under this new brand: the Torpedo 20-30. The car company entered a golden age, producing high-class racing cars as well as consumer road vehicles. However, in 1928 Nicola left the firm and Alfa struggled to retain its position.

In1932, with government assistance, the Alfa Romeo brand was rescued and they took control of the company's direction. Under the government of Mussolini, Alfa Romeo became the national car manufacturer but in World War II the factory was badly hit by bombers. Previous production of luxury cars turned into mass-production of popular models. But following the war, Alfa Romeo managed to retain pole position as a leading vehicle at the Grand Prix. In the 1960s it developed the GTA (Gran Turismo Allegerita) which won the Sports Car Club of America's Trans-Am championship. Despite falling into further financial struggles in the 1970s, the Fiat Group created a new company to manage the production of Alfa Romeo under the Alfa Lancia Industriale S.p.A. Since February 2007 the company has been part of this group, but part of the Fiat cohort since 1986.

10 Interesting Facts About Rolls-Royce

10 Interesting Facts About Rolls-Royce
New York, Paris and London chauffeur services use them and the rich and famous love them. The Rolls-Royce brand is synonymous with prestige and luxury and when you think of one of their cars you cannot help but associate quality.

For such a well established brand there are still many facts that most people are un-aware of.

1. Did you know Rolls-Royce should always be written with a hyphen in the middle to reflect both the founders' surnames?

2. Charles Rolls and Henry Royce founded the company over a hundred years ago in 1906. Incidentally a photo of the Charles Rolls and Henry Royce was never taken of them together.

3. More than six out of 10 Rolls-Royce cars ever sold are still roadworthy. The oldest still on the road is a 1904 10hp owned by Thomas Love Jr. of Perth, Scotland.

4. One of the first Rolls-Royce cars to be developed was the Rolls-Royce 10 which stood for 10 horse power. This was sold for £395.00 back in 1904 and is equivalent to £32,000, only 16 were made.

5. The mission and objective of the car manufacturer set out by the founders as a company was to provide a tangible transport alternative to horses and trains. When the company was first created the horse and carriage was still the main mode of transport.

6. Arguably the most famous Rolls-Royce car model is the Silver Ghost, 6,000 were originally made and the Ghost part of the name signified the quietness of the engine. The success of the Silver Ghost led Rolls-Royce to open a second factory in Springfield, Massachusetts but closed down after 10 years because people in the USA preferred the British made cars.

7. The Rolls-Royce R engine is the only engine to obtain land, air and water speed records.

8. The famous Rolls-Royce emblem was designed by Charles Sykes and is called the "Spirit of Ecstasy" and no two figurines look the same. Incidentally Henry Royce disliked the figurine stating it ruined the cars lines.

9. The famous car manufacturer actually stopped manufacturing cars in 1971 after the company was crippled by the development of the RB211 jet engine. The company restarted manufacturing of their cars when they were taken over by various other firms such as Vickers, BMW and Volkswagen.

10. Nowadays this famous car manufacturer which is now owned by BMW is as strong as ever and makes cars which are shipped all over the world. In 2009 they sold 1,212 Phantoms to the rich and famous including P Diddy, David Beckham and Simon Cowell to name just a few. A large amount of sales can be attributed to wedding and chauffeur companies all over the world buying their luxurious vehicles to hire out. You can find them in lots of major cities all over the world and many London chauffeur services provide Rolls-Royce phantoms for hire for up to £1200 per day.

Great Features For New and Used Cars

Great Features For New and Used Cars
BMW has recently announced that its vehicles will be the first to feature internet access capabilities via an internet enabled mobile phone. This means you'll be able to look up whether the Great Wall of China really was built to "keep the rabbits out" while you're in your car.

Today, motor vehicles offer more features and capabilities than we ever thought possible. From the humble car phone beginnings, here are some of the most technologically advanced features you can find in new or used cars:

* Rear view camera - many models now offer rear view cameras that allow you to see behind the vehicle as you reverse. This can be an especially important feature for larger family vehicles that have substantial blind spots. Car owners also have the option to purchase and fit a camera to their current vehicle.
* Keyless ignition - in the 1980s, manufacturers began installing keyless entry on their vehicles - a remote controlled the boot and door locks. Today, many vehicles now include a keyless ignition system that allows a driver to operate the vehicle without needing to fumble around looking for the keys - you'll be less likely to lock yourself out.
* Safety features - advanced safety features including anti-lock brakes and electronic stability control have made modern vehicles safer to drive in a number of conditions. If you're purchasing a used vehicle with any of these safety features, do your own car check to ensure that all of these systems are functioning properly - warning lights on the dashboard are a bad sign and should be addressed immediately.
* Satellite Navigation - many onboard computers include satellite navigation systems to help you get around. Of course, satellite navigation units are available at most electronic retail stores so it's easy to fit out any vehicle with a system and take it with you if you decide to sell your car.

When it comes to features, keep in mind that many "extras" are now considered standard, especially in the used car market. Air-conditioning, ABS systems and power windows are just some of the features that can help boost the resale value of your used car. Of course, if you're in the market for a used vehicle, a REVs Check to ensure the car you're looking to buy is clear of debt is more important than any bells-and-whistles features.

The Plymouth RoadRunner

The Plymouth RoadRunner
With the sudden emergence of the muscle cars in the market between the 1960s and the 1970s, car manufacturers produced muscle cars to help attract the market. The Plymouth Road Runner targeted the younger audience in putting a big engine in a cheap car to attract the demographic who could not afford the features presented in most cars during that day.

It was developed by the Plymouth division of Chrysler. The name originated from the cartoon character, Road Runner, which the company paid Warner Brothers $50,000 to use the name and likeness of that character for their own muscle car. Chrysler also paid $10,000 to develop the "beep beep" horn. Plymouth then began to develop a back to basics muscle car. Everything that was only related to the performance and handling was improved. The interior only had a basic bench seat. Only a few options were available such as power steering, front disc brakes, AM radio air conditioning and automatic transmission. This certainly was a muscle car packed with maximum excitement at a minimum price!

The very first engine put in the Road Runner was a 383 cid v8. A $714 option was also available for a 426 Hemi engine. The 68 model could blaze through ¼ mile of a track at 13.5 seconds. Which was quite a fast time for a low priced car. The Plymouth Road Runner was one of the best platforms to utilize one of the best engines at that time. The model was expected to only sell 2,000 units but by 1968, sales grew to 45,000. The only muscle cars outselling this model at that time were the Pontiac GTO and Chevy's SS-396 Chevelle.

Due to the success of the Plymouth Road Runner in 1968, Plymouth widened the consumer's choices. A convertible was added and also bucket seats were added as additional options. The decals were also now in color. 440 cid V8s engine was also available that provide Hemi-like acceleration for almost half the price. More than 82,000 copies were snatched by the consumers during this time. The Plymouth Road Runner was further improved and continued to be available in the market until its discontinuation in 1980

Barbie's Malibu Dream Car?

The Barbie doll brand was launched in March 1959 and comprised of enviable 5 mansions, lavish riding stables and a huge wardrobe any young girl could only dream of having. If having a great family and friends was not enough she has also had her own array of stylish sporty cars over the years. In possession of a rather cool pilots' license and various bicycles and boats, the 1960's icon has always had a parade of enviable cars parked on the imaginary drive way including classics like the VW Beetle, sporty Corvette convertibles and stylish Jeeps.

In 2009 the stylish Barbie Icon celebrated her 50th Birthday and as a present to the life-size 'Malibu Dream House' and to pay tribute to the iconic 60's brand, Volkswagen set about collaborating with Mattel to create a life-size version of 'Barbie's Malibu Dream Car', the VW Beetle convertible.

From inside and out, all around and back again the designers ABD Racing Werks, Katzin Leather and FoamMolders have not left a single detail unpolished or unrefined. The bespoke VW Beetle includes a lavish white custom leather interior, convertible top, hand stitched floor mats and even pink quilted leather lined doors. For the designers this was clearly not enough as the arm rests are also leather quilted to match the interiors. Under the bonnet it is hard not to notice the bright bespoke pink engine which includes even a dipstick to resemble Barbies' favorite shade of lipstick.

As well as the interior features the customized VW Beetle is also equipped with a motorized vanity section in the boot that entails a whole array of classic Barbie rhinestones and ornate mirrors offset by the perfect pink theme of the Beetle which is made up of 5 different color tones.

The customized one-off VW Beetle convertible was presented on a signature pink carpet at Barbies 50th birthday celebration in front of the already existing life-size 'Malibu Dream House' and with all of her fabulous celebrity guests.

The Demise of the Pontiac GTO?

Pontiac GTOWith its aggressive design, the Pontiac GTO is considered by many to be the best muscle car of all time. Its innovative design made it a favorite for racing enthusiasts between the 1960s and 1970s, where it sold in huge numbers at that time. The Pontiac GTO would be the source of the popularity of muscle cars during its era.

Full size cars were dominant in the early 1960s whereas muscle cars were just starting to become available in the market. General Motors at that time implemented a ban of factory-sponsored racing. With the GTO in the hands of young and visionary management, they turned their attention to improve street performance in a budget price by including a big engine into an intermediate car frame. Before it was made available in the market, Frank Bridge (sales manager) was not confident that the new Pontiac GTO would find a market. So the production was limited to only 5,000 cars only to find out if the GTO would be a success.

Pontiac Lemans became the first model to come with a new optional performance package that is the Pontiac GTO. This option became available at only $300, which included a 389 cid v8 engine, dual exhaust, quick steering and premium tires. For $300 it sure was a bargain at that time. GM sold more than 32,000 cars than the initial 5,000 cars estimate.

In 1965 following the success of the Pontiac GTO, GM decided to improve its performance. GM improved the styling of the car in both the front and the rear parts. Stacked quad headlights were added like the ones in their full size car models. They also revised the 389 cid v8 engine, which improved the engine's breathing. The improvements worked as GM sold more than 70,000 units.

In mid-1970s sales of the GTO began to decline and GM management decided to discontinue the production of the GTO and instead switch to Buick V8 engines. In 2004, the revival of the Pontiac GTO was attempted. Management had high expectations of selling the revived model, but it was not warmly received by GTO enthusiasts. The 18,000 initial forecasts of sales by the company were overly optimistic as it only sold approximately 14,000 units at discounted prices.

Street Racing Dangers

Street racing can be an popular past-time for bored youth or car enthusiasts alike, but presents a clear danger to these drivers and everyone else on the highway. While Hollywood images and video game experiences of street racing are commonplace, high-selling affairs, the reality of illegal racing is entirely different. The hero may never wreck their car, despite ridiculous speeds, and the gamer may take a head-on crash in stride, but real drivers in real cars can be injured at even low speeds and doing marginally unexpected maneuvers in traffic.

The culture surrounding street racing has existed for decades. European races originally used main roadways, not necessarily warning pedestrians or other drivers caught in the path. In America, street racing developed heavily in California and Florida. In the case of California, this eventually spawned drag racing, which has gone on to use separate tracks and specialized high-speed vehicles that would be impractical on a regular highway.

To combat illegal racing, many professional racers and law enforcement community members have come together to promote legal racing at sanctioned race tracks. So long as a driver registers his or her vehicle and follows the track's regulations, these sanctioned tracks allow prospective racers to drive their vehicles at whatever legal levels they want to drive. Naturally, illegal modifications, which are often used in street racing, are still illegal, regardless of the track setting.

Street racing is absolutely reckless, no matter how skilled a driver claims to be. Racing at fast speeds can cause a driver to dart in or out of lanes with a turn signal, stop abruptly, make wide turns, and accelerate to a degree that poses a threat to the mechanical integrity of the car.

If you want to learn more about the injuries illegal racing can cause and what kind of liability can be assigned to a racer, contact an experienced car accident attorney.

History of the Mercury Comet

History of the Mercury Comet
The Mercury Comet was considered a compact model and classified as a pony car at the same time. But due to the continuous changes, it would soon transform into a worthy muscle car. Released as a separate model from the Edsel line in 1960, it was first classified as a compact car. Four years later, the Cyclone Super 289 V8 was added to the option list. This was the start of the transformation of the Mercury Comet to a full fledged muscle car.

The 1964 Cyclone Super 289 V8 engine was rated at only 210bhp. A higher performing engine, the 289 V8 rated at 271bhp was also available but was not included in the production model. The Cyclone two-door hardtop came with bucket seats, consoles, wheel covers and chrome engine dress-ups. The year after that, the Mercury Comet engine had a performance boost. The 289 V8 was upgraded to 225bhp. A special order of the 289 V8 with a rating of 271bhp was also an added option.

In 1966, the chassis and the body shell shared the characteristics of a Ford Fairlane, making it a true intermediate car. The front track was increased to 58 inches and the wheelbase grew to up to 116 inches. This made room for big block engines. The styling was plain but decent compared to the other savvy styled muscle cars at that time. The new GT option costs only $452. This included the 390 cid V8 with a rating of 335bhp. It had a dual exhaust, four-barrel carb, fiber glass hood, an engine dress-up kit, front disk brakes, handling package and an optional four-speed manual or automatic transmission. GT striping and badging were also included in the package.

In 1967, the Mercury Cougar was introduced. This hurt the sales of the Mercury Comet. Attributed to poor sales were also minimal or no improvements in the engine's performance. Major restyling was made in 1968 and the muscle car sported larger dimensions and had a fastback coup body style which became an instant hit. More than 6,000 units were sold with the introduction of the fastback coup body style. The engine was a 428 Cobra Jet V8 and was under rated at 335bhp. Many changes and improvements were made until 1975 when the production of the Mercury Comet GT was discontinued.

2010 Volkswagen Amarok

2010 Volkswagen Amarok
Volkswagen has finally broken into the UTE market, and workmen, tradies and devoted pick-up drivers are eagerly anticipating the release of the VW Amarok in Australia later this year.

The first one-tonne class pick-up to be developed in Germany, the Amarok is set to be a leader in the UTE trade on interior space and comfort, fuel efficiency and safety features. Add in the refinement expected from a Volkswagen vehicle and the Amarok is likely to give other Australian workhorse UTEs a run for their money.

Volkswagen Amarok - What can drivers expect?

Layout - The Volkswagen Amarok will initially be launched in a four door double-cab layout, with a single cab design to follow. The interior space is expected to outclass other UTEs, with full seating for five people, spacious headroom and leather upholstery.

Engine and fuel efficiency - The Amarok runs on one of two 2.0 TDI diesel engines, the first a bi-turbo diesel engine and a second smaller diesel engine. One of the drawcards of the Amarok is its fuel efficiency, with the bi-turbo engine's fuel economy listed at just 7.8 l/100km and the smaller engine achieving a similar 7.6 l/100km fuel economy.

Safety Features - The VW Amarok is fitted with an anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic stability programming (ESP) with trailer stabilization for greater safety while driving on every surface. Head-adjustable head restraints and seatbelts, and driver and front passenger airbags ensure further safety.

Driveline concepts - The Amarok has three driveline concepts, making it suitable as both a workman's vehicle and for urban transport and inner city driving. Drivers can choose from a rear wheel drive and permanent or shiftable 4Motion all-wheel drive.

Other features - The Amorak can carry a one tonne payload and the vehicle's Gradient Climbing Ability can handle gradients as steep as 100%.

Amarok is Inuit for 'wolf' and with an imposing exterior and noticeably roomier interior it's sure to turn heads and live up to its namesake. The Volkswagen Amarok will also be the widest and largest mid-range pick-up truck available in Australia.

With Australia the fourth largest UTE market in the world, the newest player on the scene is soon to hit our shores. With the refinement expected from VW's, the Amarok will add another dimension to Australian working and recreational vehicles.

1964 Mustang Convertible

1964 Mustang Convertible
Were available in a Convertible or a Coupe the fastback wasn't introduced until the summer of 1964.

The Vehicle Identifications Numbers where made in line with the available components and later changed with the introduction of full production 1965 Mustangs.

The pre-production models where all still stamped 1965; came from the Dearborn plant. This dictated the first two characters and

VIN 5FO8DXXXXXX

VIN 5FO3DXXXXXX

Many options even in the early model where available, Factory D code 289 4V, factory 4 speed top loader. A power top for the convertible and air conditioning for all.

The example in the photo is original Raven Black exterior, white standard interior in good condition. Excellent straight and rust free body, although in need of a rebuild it is a great example of something from the era. Motor has been rebuilt. Drives well.

Also the original features include generator and large 64 style horns on front rails with the originally Spinner hubcaps, fords mustangs were stylish from the start.

So what's the difference between a '64-1/2 and a '65 Mustang? Not much and yet everything. From 50 feet away, they look the same; close up, they host quite a number of differences. The '64-1/2 Mustangs have always been '65 Mustangs, by their stamp but that's where it ends. As enthusiasts, we call them "'64-1/2" because it's what it is, but it's also a cult thing. Early '65 Mustangs have the distinction of being the first batch of Ponies ever produced. They were the initial part of the Mustang madness that swept the world in 1964. And if you have a "'64-1/2" built at Dearborn, that makes it even more significant in the relative scheme of things, because it was born in the motherland.

When the Mustang entered production early in March 1964, it didn't have many of the features it would have later on; call it a re-skinned Falcon with bucket seats. To be a '64-1/2 at all, a Mustang has to be factory-equipped with a generator charging system, a 170ci six (U-code), a 260 2V (F-code), or a 289 4V (D-code) low-compression, large horns mounted down on the frame behind the radiator, a brake light pressure switch on the master cylinder, a center "off" heater fan switch, and a generator charge light, just to name the basics. These are features exclusive to Mustangs built between early March and July 31, 1964 (scheduled build date code only).

New Ford Mondeo

New Ford Mondeo
With a restyled exterior, updated interior and a new range of engine choices, the Ford Mondeo is set to be on sale across the nation in showrooms from October 2010. This will be the fifth generation of Ford Mondeo, which has seen its popularity increase year on year from its launch.

The new model features the latest in kinetic design similar to the S-Max and the Galaxy Ford models and enhancements and changes have been made across the body and engine. From the new and enhanced bonnet profile to the front bumpers with LED lights and re designed rear lights with LED technology, the new Mondeo promises to be slicker and better than ever whilst maintaining its affordability.

There's a new centre console in the interior and customers will be able to specify the trim they want across the whole range. There's the first application of a higher performance engine. A 238bhp version of the 2.0 litre Ford Eco Boost turbocharged petrol engine. This will provide extra performance whilst averaging the same CO2 emissions as the 201bhp unit, regardless of the body style.

A 12% power increase to the 198bhp has been made making the revised 2.2 litre Ford Duratorq TDC1 engine the most powerful Duratorq diesel engine to date. The new Mondeo will possess a blind spot information system, speed limiter, rear door power child locks and a rear view camera, similar to the latest S-Max and Galaxy models. New driver assistance features have been included with the new Mondeo which should appeal to the fleet customers including lane departure warning, driver alert and auto high beam.

The Ford Mondeo has been a popular car choice for private and fleet buyers since its launch in 1993. Renowned for its driving ability coupled with its affordability makes the Ford Mondeo a popular choice time and again for families. There have already been four generations and whilst some have sold better than others the car itself has always won awards from What Car to Top Gear Car of the Year through to numerous awards from various car magazines.

2010 Volkswagen Vento

2010 Volkswagen VentoJuly 2010 seems to be a month stormed with new car launches. Over five new cars would be launched and one of the most notable entries would be that of the Vento. Volkswagen has not disappointed the Indian consumer who had been waiting for the car's unveiling. The Vento, which is the sedan version of the Polo, has been unveiled on the 6th of July, 2010 in India. It has made its entry as a premium entry level sedan. Every inch of this car is believed to be designed keeping in mind the needs of the Indian consumer. Let's have a look at the Vento offering.

The VW Vento is all set to beat the competition. It is going to real tough as there were other recent launches in the very same segment; the Hyundai Verna Transform, Honda City and Maruti Suzuki SX4 have just entered the road.

The Volkswagen Vento will be available in both petrol and diesel variants. As the Maruti Suzuki SX4 and Honda City come in just petrol variants, the Vento has an advantage in this regard. The very same 105-bhp 1.6 litre engine that powers the BS III version of the Jetta will be powering the Vento while the diesel variant is believed to carry a 1.6-litre, common rail four-cylinder engine that is capable of churning out 105 bhp. This would be the same engine that the cars of the Polo Cup Racers in India are going to flaunt. The racers' cars, however, will be fine tuned to deliver 130 bhp. Both petrol and diesel engines will be mated to manual gearboxes while the petrol variants will also come with the automatic transmission option.

The Polo as a hatchback is very spacious and the sedan version of that car can certainly boast of more space, improved seating with better shoulder and headroom. The Vento also has new controls in the instrument console and the steering wheel comes in a new design with more chrome inserts than what was seen in the Polo hatchback.

The auto maker, Volkswagen says that the Vento will be equipped with features that it felt best suited for the Indian roads. It will come with an excellent suspension that offers great drivability on the Indian roads, a strong air conditioning system that takes care of extreme weather conditions which are very common in the country, convenient legroom including comfortable rear seats, high ground clearance and more for the fat Indian families. The Vento is high on safety too. It carries an array of features like Anti Braking Systems (ABS) and airbags and even a strong horn, that's really necessary for safe driving in India.

The Vento will be assembled at Volkswagen's much hyped Pune plant in Chakan. It will be built together with the Volkswagen Polo and Skoda Fabia hatchbacks. The Vento making its entry, Volkswagen now has seven models on offer in India, ranging from the Polo, Vento, New Beetle, Jetta, Passat, Touareg and the handmade luxury car Phaeton. Being very much aware of the competition in the promising Indian car market, the car maker has priced the car just right. Speaking of competition, the third week of July would bring us the much awaited hatchback Nissan Micra, while the Mitsubishi Evo X will launch a little later. Fiat is all set to roll out the 90-bhp Grande Punto Sport.

The Chevrolet Suburban

The Chevrolet Suburban
Welcome the VIP of road-side gas stations: the everyman-gas guzzler, the Chevrolet Suburban. However, despite its greediness, the Suburban has scored a market homerun. Here's why.

The Chevy Suburban debuted in 1936 and has matured through eleven generations. Beginning as a two-seater, eight-passenger hulk with 90-hp, the Suburban had barely reached first grade before World War II interfered and Chevy took a hiatus from producing civilian vehicles. Beginning in the 1950s, Chevy started injecting serious power into their sluggish beast. Torque-filled power, family-friendly utilities, class-leading cargo space, and off-road versatility characterize recent generations.

In 2010, the nine-seater Suburban arrived with more power, panache and aplomb than ever. It comes in two sizes: light 1500 and heavy-duty 2500. The power plant trio sports a standard 5.3-liter, 310-hp V8 with a whopping 340 lb-feet of torque, featuring GM's fuel-efficient cylinder deactivation technology; optional on the 1500 is a 6.0-liter, 366-hp V8 shoveling out 376 lb-feet of torque; and the 6.0-liter, 352-hp V8 with 382 lb-feet of torque, which is standard on the 2500. All are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. RWD and 4WD are both available. The 'Burban comes in three trims.

LS The $40,000 LS (difference of $2,000 between 1500 and 2500 variants) sports a long list of interior amenities. Besides regularities, the Suburban also has a 40/20/40-split front bench seat, rear-seat A/C, full power accessories and an eight-speaker AM/FM/XM/CD/MP3 audio system replete with auxiliary audio/USB jacks.

LT To the LS's respectable roster the $44,000 LT adds a colossal cornucopia of interior elements, such as power front bucket seats, an upgraded audio system with rear headphones, improved A/C, leather upholstery, Bluetooth, remote vehicle parking and rear parking assist. The exterior features items like fog lamps, luggage-rack rails and running boards.

LTZ Only available as a 1500, the $52,000 LTZ rolls on 20-inch wheels and adds luxury like leather upholstery, heated and cooled front seats, power-folding heated second-row, a 10-speaker Bose surround sound system and more.

Options include a heavy-duty tow package, off-road package, navigation system, rearview camera, rear-seat DVD entertainment system and anything else on Santa's list.

Performance & Handling Unlike many of its truck-based competitors, the Chevy Suburban offers an unexpectedly amenable and quiet ride. The drive is comfortable, the tow power - nearly 10,000 pounds - is immense, and the acceleration - sub 9 seconds - isn't atrocious. Similar vehicles include the Chevy Tahoe, GMC Yukon and Ford Expedition. For off-road capability, check out the Jeep Commander.

Fuel Economy Fuel economy is not quite up to snuff. The Suburban's 5.3-liter 14/20/16 mpg and the 6.0-liter 12/17/14 mpg is a virtual hole in your pocket. However, the Suburban's other attributes may make up for its lack of fuel economy. The Toyota Sequoia gets similar mpg. For better economy, check out the Chevy Tahoe Hybrid, Mazda CX-9, or Nissan Armada.

Safety Suburbans come standard with four-wheel antilock brakes, stability control, OnStar™, and a cornucopia of airbags with rollover sensor. NHTSA awards it a perfect ballot in both front and side crash tests and a 3-star rollover. This is slightly higher than class average.

Reliability J.D. Power and Associates ranks the Suburban's Overall Initial Reliability at three stars and Predicted Reliability at two-and-a-half twinkles.

The Porsche 930 in Retrospect?

The Porsche 930 in Retrospect?
The Porsche 930 (pronounced nine thirty) is an internal type number given to this particular 911 model car. In the same way you have the Porsche 964, 993, 996 and the 997, all these numbers are internal (factory) type number given different 911 models.

Porsche forever changed the game with introduction of the 930. It was the first 911 homologated for road to use a turbocharger, and was the top of the range model 911 for its entire production. It is also of interest to note that it was the fastest production vehicle in Germany at the time of its introduction in 1975.

The 930 Porsche also developed a reputation for fast acceleration, and difficult drag and handling, due mainly to its short wheel base and rear engine design. This combined with the power that comes with a turbocharged engine, meant significant turbo lag, thus requiring even more than the usual skills to drive the car at its full potential.

The Different Face Of The 930 Through The Years:

The introduction of the Porsche 930 Turbo Carrera in 1976 and 1977 saw Porsche pushing the envelope a little further. The car was dubbed the Turbo Carrera, it was turbo charged and had a 3.0 liter engine, it went from 0 to 60 in 6.7 seconds (very fast or its time) and cruised to 156 miles per hour.

The 930 Turbo Carrera came with modified suspension, fender flares, and the most distinguishable trademark, the whaletale. The car was in a class by itself.

But Porsche would out do itself as the Turbo Carrera was merely a precursor of something more powerful to come.

Within 2 years time, the "big kahuna" came on the scene in 1978. This model was developed into a 3.3 liter, turbocharged speed machine that went from 0 to 60 in 4.9 seconds and exceeded 165 mile per hour.

The distribution of 930 was eventually ceased in 1979 in the USA, mainly because of changing emission standards. That said you can still acquire one if you so desire, as there are many for sale all over the United States.

After a 7 year hiatus, the Porsche Turbo returned in year 1986. There were no major changes to this model, as it was virtually the same as the previous car. It had a 4 speed gearbox and a somewhat unstable rear end. There a few improvements in the 1989 models, which had a 5 speed gear box, 285 horsepower, and a better suspension system along with wider tires and a better braking system.

In the U.S. it end at 1995 but other places like Japan and Australia continue to sell until 2002.

The Mazda RX7 is an aspirated 1.3L rotary engine, up to 246hp an redline at 8,500rpm. And usually a 2-seater sport car but and most people don't know is that the 2nd Gen RX7 does have a 4-seater model. It's another rare feature. The Buick Gran Sports

The Buick Gran Sports
A high performance package available for Buick models including Riviera, Skylark and Wildcat was the Buick Gran Sport or Buick GS. Buick was one of the last manufacturers to enter the muscle cars battle. It started, like other GM intermediate cars, as an option on an existing model. Once the car underwent fine tuning, it would become one of the most formidable and fearsome muscle cars of all time.

In 1965 came the Skylark Gran Sport, an intermediate Buick GS with the GS option added. The GS had the largest engine supported by GM, a 400 cid Buick V8. This was known as the "nail head" engine due to the size of its valves and was capable of producing 32b5hp. More than 15,000 Skylarks equipped with the GS option were sold that year. The year after that, the Buick Skylark GS was redesigned and the performance was improved. New rear slooping panels were installed that were distinguished by blacked out grilles. Other additions were non-functional rear-facing hood scopes and front fender vents.

The engine was now capable of producing 340bhp. The engine could accelerate to 60mph in just eight second. Only 13,000 units were produced despite the improvements made to the Buick GS.

In 1967, a new 400 cid engine was introduced, the name was also changed to GS 400.The engine had a modern design, higher revving, an improved air cleaner and was generally ran better than the old engine. The major design change was the hood scoops were now facing forward. Along with the redesign of the engine and the exterior, the 3 speed automatic transmission was also included. A junior Buick GS was also formed that year, the GS 340 but was overshadowed by its brother, the GS 400.

In 1968, the Buick GS was now a little over 4 inches shorter in length. The rear end styling was changed along with the sail creases on the sides which resulted in the increase in overall weight of the Buick. A rare dealer installed option was introduced which enabled 11:0:1 compression, an improved transmission and stronger valve springs. The Buick GS production ended in 1972 until it surface again in the mid 1980s.

The Rebirth of Dodge Vehicles?

The Rebirth of Dodge Vehicles?
There are precious few companies that have touched the American psyche as Dodge has, and there may be a reason why. Dodge is known to be an automobile maker that exists at the cross-section of affordability and performance, a nexus that combines elements of the American dream and common sense. Not wanting to be confused with its American counterparts Chevy and Ford, Dodge managed to infuse this nexus with its own unique attitude, one exemplified by the early 1990s slogan taken from Thomas Paine: Lead, follow, or get out of the way.

America's unique needs and recent history have impacted Dodge very directly. The original Charger and Challenger vehicles kept the Detroit automaker busy within the industry for years. After some time, the vehicles were retired as the company went in another direction. The Dodge Magnum made its debut early on, as well, although the design was very different from both the Charger and Challenger. It, too, was retired.

The Magnum was revived from 2005 to 2008. The original Challenger and Charger were then reinvented in recent years. The rebirth of the Charger and Challenger vehicles from previous models sent a ripple of excitement through the classic muscle car enthusiast population, but the Magnum was also well known on the market as the reincarnation of the station wagon for families with children. The company's emphasis on strong motors put the vehicle back into the hands of American consumers who were lusting for powerful yet practical automobiles with extra room for the kids.

The classic colors that were popular with consumers in the 1960s and '70s have made a comeback as well. The retro look of orange, green and yellow cars have grown up a little bit over the years and are still eye-catching and reminiscent of the former car colors.

Although the reborn Charger and Challenger have retained the sporty look and powerful engines that gained them a cult following of sorts decades ago, they have targeted comfort and a smooth ride as improvements in the models. Unlike the Magnum, they largely resemble their forefathers. The new attitude station wagon has little resemblance to the coupe that helped make Richard Petty famous in the old-style B body except for its name and a comfortable back seat.

For Dodge fans, finding a used Dodge Magnum and a new or used Challenger and Charger make car shopping more of an adventure and even a bit of a history lesson.

Ferrari 599 GTO Is The Best Sports Car in the World?

Ferrari 599 GTO Is The Best Sports Car in the World?
With the return of the legendary 'GTO' badge to a Ferrari for 2010, the question being asked by most people familiar with sports cars and Ferrari in particular is, 'is this the best sports car in the world?'

The model lucky enough to get the GTO treatment and wear the badge is Ferrari's two seat flagship the 599 GTB Fiorano. The Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano was introduced in 2006 to replace the 575 Maranello. In it's first year the 599 won the Evo car of the year, Evo being the premiere Magazine in Britain focusing on driver oriented cars and a global authority on performance cars.

So the 599 GTB was already a great supercar when it first appeared in 2006, featuring a 5999cc V12 positioned at the front of the car longitudinally. It develops 611bhp and 448lb ft of torque and all of that power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a 6 speed manual transmission or Ferrari's 6 speed 'F1 Superfast' automated manual transmission with paddle shifters.

The 599 GTB also features magnetorheological dampers which are dampers filled with magnetorheological fluid and controlled by a magnetic field. So by varying the strength of the electromagnet emitting the magnetic field you can adapt individual dampers to continuously altering conditions. This semi active suspension is critical on the 599 GTB in compensating for the basic physics of having the engine out in front of you feeding the driving wheels behind you.

The 599 GTB Fiorano is capable of reaching 60mph from rest in 3.5 seconds and can go on to reach 100mph 2.9 secs later, so from 0 to 100mph in 7.4 secs. It also has a top speed of 205mph.

The only 2 other cars to wear the GTO badge were the race bred 250 GTO in 1962 band the 288 GTO in 1984, both of which are rare and extremely sought after these days. GTO stands for Gran Turismo Omologata and derives from the 2 previous models which were built as homologation specials to allow Ferrari to race them.

The 599 GTO gets the detuned version of the race car spec 599XX 722bhp engine but still produces 670bhp with 457 lb ft of torque. The transmission is a 6 speed paddle shift auto manual with an uprated 60 millisecond gear change time. This will allow the car to hit 60mph in 3.35 secs and will probably be able to hit 100mph from standstill in 6.5 secs and will go on to hit 208mph.

The 599 GTO has a bespoke 6 into 1 exhaust manifold and no doubt will sound fantastic. The underside of the car has also seen some changes to allow the maximum amount of down force to be generated with the minimum amount of drag, so there are no overt or obvious racetrack addenda such as a high rear wing but still the car can generate 144kg of down force at 120mph.

In order to extract the maximum performance from all areas of the car, the Ferrari relies heavily on its VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control) system and it's F1-Trac traction control to exploit the chassis's razor sharp responses. The car relies on the constant adjustments being made its electronic systems to keep everything in check and pointing forward (or sideways if you are a particularly talented driver).

The result of all of this refinement is a lap time set by the 599 GTO around the Ferrari test track of Fiorano that is 0.9 secs faster than that of the Ferrari Enzo which is a proper mid engined hypercar. So the performance of the 599 GTO is astounding but the real test will be whether that performance can be translated into a truly great driving experience given that there is so much electronic wizardry going on. Only time will tell.

The 599 GTO does however deliver breathtaking performance both on and off of the track but is it enough to become the best sports car in the world?

2004 BMW 525i

2004 BMW 525i
I first fell in love with BMW's in the Summer of 1984 before my Senior year of High School. However, it wasn't until September of 2008 that I bought my first BMW, a 2004 525i.

The 2004 525i has a couple of unique things about it. First, the wheels that are on it were only produced in 2004. So all the 2004 stock wheels have 7 open holes around the rim that give it a uniquely different look from the 2005 5 series models. Second, it is also the first of the new E-60 body style which I personally love way better than the previous body styles. However, not everyone agrees with me because it became a controversial style for BMW 5 series models. That still doesn't change my view though: I love the car.

It's interesting to me how non-BMW owner's or even those familiar with the cars do not realize that I have a 2004 model. I am all about keeping the car looking sharp and it's not uncommon for people to guess 2008 or so as the model year which makes me feel good of course.

If you are looking for a 2004 5 series, you can find one for somewhere between $14,000 to $18,000 as of this article which isn't bad if you get one in excellent condition. My car has been relatively maintenance free in the 22 months that I have owned it. There is a recall on the heated seat element though. I got a new bottom seat and heating element from BMW for free. So keep that in mind if you like the 2004 model which can also be bought for an affordable price.

In closing, if you buy a car over the internet, you may want to consider auto shipping as an option. I have included a resource in the footer.

The True Succes of Audi A3

The True Succes of Audi A3
Audi A3 is one of the small family cars available all over the world. It was initially produced by the German Automaker Audi in 1996 and was available in two generations. The type of cars are closely related to the Scoda Octavia, Audi TT, Seat Leon, Volkswagen Golf and many more considering that they uses the same platforms which is the Volkswagen's A platform.

The original A3 or TYP 8L is considered to be the first generation. It was said that this was the first group model of Volkswagen to used the PQ34 or A4 platform allowing it to have a more resemblance with the Volkswagen Golf MK4. With its 3-door hatched back body, it gives the alluring sporty look of the A3. The car also uses an inline 4-cylinder configuration for its engine. By year 1999, Audi made some extra upgrades to their car models because of the decreasing demand of the A3 series. Thats why after upgrading the range of Audi they've created something with 1.8i Turbo rated 180 PS and 1.9 TDI diesel engine with unit injector and variable geometry turbocharger. This include the A3 1.8T quattro uses the 180 PS engine as well as the Audi S3 and Audi TT. By the year 2000, the A3 range was again revised which basically introduced the six-speed manual gearbox. The A3 series are characterized by brake force distribution computer, transaction control and electronic stability program. However, at year 2003, A3 series with the first generation concept was diminished in the Europe market but still sell throughout the other developing countries.

The second generation of A3 series was introduced by the year 2003 until the present time. During the first released of the second generation of the A3, the new feature was implied like automobile platform or PQ35. The interior was redesigned to become more spacious, petron engine was also implied with the Fuel Stratified Injection and still the standard six-speed gear boxes.

As of now, the A3 series is widely available worldwide with much easy access. Used Audi A3 can be found in many online auto shops with very inexpensive price. Consumers normally just wanted to have an easy way of shopping that's why even if there's a big risk in doing so, many people do still embrace the way of buying stuffs and goods online. But then again, it is wise act to do even a little research beforehand.

2009 Infiniti G Series

2009 Infiniti G Series
Slicing the roof off a slinky coupe such as the 10Best-winning Infiniti G37 is fraught with danger. A graceful corner eater can be wrecked by the added weight of structural reinforcements and pulled like taffy to package the folding roof. But as long ago as last August, when Nissan design chief Shiro Nakamura showed the first alluring pictures of the Infiniti G37 convertible, we suspected Infiniti had preserved its best looker.

Nakamura's accomplishment has been to throw out the roof while keeping the rest of the hot bod. In the G37, the muscular shoulders, the short overhangs, and the flat, athletic beltline are all still there. Infiniti proudly proclaims that the convertible is just 0.2 inch longer than the coupe, even though all the sheetmetal behind the seats is unique to the convertible. So far, we're cheering.

Then the roof goes down with a button push, and we see why coupes tend to balloon in the top-cutting process. In a seamless, 30-second ballet of pirouetting panels and tumbling glass, the G37's steel roof, engineered and supplied by Germany's Karmann Group, efficiently fractures into three sections and stacks in the trunk. And then the trunk is full, stuffed like a steel egg roll. There's barely enough room for a Subway foot-long once the G37's top is stowed. The BMW 328i convertible, its base price right where the G37 convertible's should land at about $45,000, leaves behind more usable space.

Ah, trade-offs. Another biggie is the 450 or so pounds added to the G37's curb weight as Nissan welded in gussets and braces to preserve the coupe's sporty stiffness. Although heavy, the reinforcements work. The G37 convertible exhibits only slight shivers over the rough stuff, and the convertible arcs through corners with the same balanced aplomb as the coupe. It still bolts hard under full throttle, although the extra pounds will no doubt add a few tenths to the coupe's 5.3-second 0-to-60-mph sprints.

The sonorous 3.7-liter DOHC V-6 carries over from the coupe, with peak output of 325 hp coming in five fewer than the hardtop's, thanks to some exhaust changes. A seven-speed automatic will be the popular transmission. A six-speed manual is available only with the Sport package, which also includes 19-inch wheels, summer tires, a quicker steering ratio, more sportif interior trim, and a revised front bumper. Get the automatic with the Sport pack, and the steering wheel sprouts magnesium shift paddles. All-wheel drive, however, will not be offered, due to the extra weight and cost.

Like many luxury convertibles, the G37 droptop boasts a few technologies intended to smooth over the differences between top-up and top-down driving. The Premium package (not available with the Sport package) includes a 13-speaker Bose Open-Air Audio system with noise-compensating software and headrest-mounted speakers, which change their sound signature depending on the roof's position. Similarly, the climate-control system self-adjusts the fan speed and temperature in accordance with speed, ambient temperature, and top position. The goal is to keep you cooler when it's hot and warmer when it's cold.

Of the four-seat droptops, BMW's 3-series convertible is still a killer, with its benchmark dynamics, a choice of two ultra-smooth inline-sixes, and a folding hardtop that leaves usable space in the trunk. It feels a bit stiffer, too. But the G37 offers more horsepower and luxury, dollar for dollar, than the Bimmer. And Nakamura's convertible is definitely a knockout in the design department.
